Local organisations
The West Sussex Parents Forum is an independent parent led organisation run by parent volunteers. Their role is to represent the view of their members in West Sussex. To do this, they work in partnership with West Sussex County Council, NHS in West Sussex, School, District and Borough Councils and other Voluntary Sector organisations, aiming to positively improve services in West Sussex for disabled children, young people and their families. SEND Benefits Advice is available for parents with children that have additional care needs/disabilities. Disability Living Allowance Renewals and applications, carers allowance, tax credits etc. Help is available to apply for all these benefits! Horsham Youth Centre 4 The Youth, Junior M&S Is an after school club for children aged 10 to 13 years held for two hours a week during term time. It is designed to help children get accustomed to the way the youth club works with the opportunity to move to M8’s once the young person turns 13. Inclusive BMX Track, Crawley. This project is an inclusive BMX track to ensure that disabled children and young people can integrate with their peers. Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre. Our purpose built sensory room provides an interactive activity room with specialist features including Ball pool, light defraction totem, UV tactile panel, fibre optic strands, milky way carpet, interactive colour changing panels and a toy treasure chest. You Can Do It, Horsham. Have various courses for children with disabilities and young people and for those with additional needs for ages 5 through to 25 years. Small classes are led by trained coaches. A leaflet providing further information is attached this week. Core Leisure Sports Inclusion is a West Sussex wide service to support and encourage children and young people with a range of disabilities to take part in sports groups and activities. Support is provided on a one to one basis. We come out and meet the young person and their family and talk about the sorts of activities the young person would like to access. Our Inclusion Workers will then identify suitable venues and groups and any barriers that would prevent the young person from accessing the group. Support is then given to the young person to access the group gradually withdrawing to allow the young person to become a valued and included member of the group of team. Albion in the Community run weekly wheelchair multi-sports sessions in two different locations. The sessions are great fun and offer the chance to take part in different sports such as wheelchair football, basketball, hockey, boccia and new age kurling. Their Gully’s Days Out programme for disabled young people in West Sussex is designed to offer young people the opportunity to access local leisure facilities such as Butling and Arundel Wetlands Trust for Free. Billingshurst Leisure Centre has swimming lessons available for 5-19 year olds on Saturday at 10am. They also operate an inclusive policy in their parent and baby and parent toddler sessions for under 5’s/ Billingshurst Leisure Centre also benefits from having an accessible changing room complete with height adjustable changing bench and ceiling hoists.
